Week 6 Assignment: Sports

- Photograph a sports game-
- See http://calbears.cstv.com/calendar/events/ for a schedule of the upcoming cal sports
- Or photograph an intramural game or club sport game/practice
- Try to get one good action shot-with the ball in the photo
- Get other shots as well---key plays, reaction, details, etc…
- Post your best 3 pictures-

Week 5 Assignment: Portrait/Enviornmenatl Portrait

- Take a portrait and an Environmental portrait.
Try to pair up with someone in the class and practice having your own photograph taken so you know what it feels like.
Include captions with the photos.
Post 1-2 for each.
They can be of different people or the same person.
- Focus on:
- Quality of Light
- Clean Backgrounds
- Eye Contact
- Composition
- Hands can be AWKWARD
- For Environmental portraits:
- Know about the person/ what they’ve done
- Use props, visual clues for context
- Utilize the setting
- Creativity is key
- Wide angle vs. Telephoto
Week 4 Assignment: News photo again

- Repeat the week 3 assignment. Shoot a roll of film. Get caption info.
- Make sure to get visual variety. Shoot from at least 5 different angles, perspectives.
- Move your self- don’t just shoot from one spot. Shoot from low angles or high angles not just at eye level.
- Try using different lenses.
- In every picture pay attention to every edge of your frame before you click the shutter.
- Full Frame- try to fill the frame. Eliminate dead space
- Try to have one with an interesting fore-ground background relationship.
- Post the top 3-5 (each of a different angle/visual variety). Don't forget the caption!
Week 3 Assignment: News photo
- Find an event- events.berkeley.edu
Take a roll of film at least 30-40 photos digitally
- Get cutline information and add it to the photos when you upload them.
- Get a Visual Variety- safety shot, Overall, medium, closeup, decisive moment,
- Post your best 5-one from each type. Label each type of shot.
Week 2 Assignment: News photo example
- Find a good example of a news photo from a newspaper- nytimes.com, reuters.com, etc.
Upload it and copy the caption and link to the photo into the caption space
- In the comments respond to these questions:
- 1) How would you categorize this photo? (ie sports, speaker shot, etc)
- 2) What is the subject and why is it newsworthy?
- 3) Why did you chose this photo and what makes it a good photo.
- 4) Can you guess how it was taken? (ie with a wide angle, with a slow shutter speed, etc.)

- Valentine's day-Upload 2. One of your best and some of your worst. We will discuss problems you've had in class.
