Assignment, Week 10: Landscape
Theme: Strange Colors
The assignment for this week was landscapes. In particular, focus on the following things guest speaker Mike Seeman talked about:
- Using wide angles ("zoomed out") to get a combination of foreground, middleground, and background elements.
- Pay attention to the time of day, and the different lighting it provides. An idea might be to spend an hour sitting at a scene during a sunrise/sunset, and take several photos as the light changes dramatically.
- Try to find interesting weather, like clouds or fog, especially when combined with very dramatic lighting (around sunset/sunrise)
- High-contrast scenes. If you want, take a set of phtos in high contrast scenes (exact same composition, just bias the shot to be brighter and darker using the EV or EC adjustments). When we get to photo processing, we'll take a look at how to blend exposures so that we don't get harsh cutoffs with black shadows or white highlights.
